Antonelli’s Silly Sneaky Story

Andrea Kimi Antonelli has revealed a secret that his family and friends have kept for over a decade.

Kimi Antonelli would have walked through the Formula 1 paddock when he started Formula 3, but that was not the first time he got into the area behind the Pit garages.

In 2014, his father, Marco Antonelli, raced in the Porsche Supercup during the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim. In a recent interview released by the Mercedes AMG F1 team, Kimi Antonelli said, “I couldn’t get into the paddock because I was too little.”

Instead of leaving the track, Marco Antonelli hid his 7-year-old son inside a trolly stacked with tyres. An umbrella was placed above him to ensure Kimi wasn’t spotted. He was let inside of the paddock without anyone from F1 knowing.

“I got into the pit lane, and my dad’s friend got me a pass. I had a look around for an hour, and it was such a cool experience.” The Anotnelli family still laugh about it until this day.

Top Tip: if you are small enough to fit inside of a tyre stack and want to get into a motorsport paddock, you now know what to do.
