Day 1 of F1 pre-season 2025 testing round up

Day one of F1 testing is over, and all 20 drivers had a go in their 2025 cars. Lando Norris took the overall top spot with a 1:30.430, But it was Esteban Ocon who drove the most tours around the Bahrain International Circuit with 88. As a team, Haas picked up the most laps, although both drivers were at the bottom of the timings, focussing on race pace rather than quali pace.

Enough of the numbers and more of the drama. Liam Lawson takes his Redbull for a spin at the tricky off-cambered Turn 2 early on in the first session. The first driver to spin there for the 2025 season. The drama continues for Lawson as Crofty tries to convince the rest of the commentary box that Lawson is not a rookie as he has had 11 previous race starts.

RedBull was one of the teams that had a minor issue as the car chucks smoke out of the exhaust. We are unsure of the issue, but Redbull fixed it quickly. McLaren also held Lando Norris in the garge as they were fiddling around with there new front wing and anti-dive technology. We have also heard strange noices from the Ferrari garage, with drills on carbon fibre and hammers on metal.

The four-hour afternoon/evening session had the first red flag. As the sun set, the floodlights illuminated the track for a little bit. The lights went out across the track including in the pitlane. The red flag was out for about an hour before the lights turned on, and an extra hour was added on, making it a 5-hour session. George Russel said “I came out the pits, I went on the radio and said: ‘Guys I need to change the visor’. And then I realised ‘Ah S*** there’s no lights on’”
