Brouillard: Bugatti’s Most Exclusive Yet

Bugatti unveiled the one-of-one Brouillard hypercar today, showcasing the first of the brand’s the ultra-exclusive ‘Programme Solitaire’ division.

Inspired by Ettore Bugatti’s favourite horse, Brouillard (pronouced ‘brew-yar’) is a celebration of “speed, beauty, and unparalleled grace,” harking from the new Programme Solitaire division – where only two cars will be commissioned each year.

Taking inspiration from La Voiture Noire and the Divo, the exterior design reflects unequivocal luxury and hair-raising performance – all to the symphony of Bugatti’s final quad-turbo W-16 engine producing 1,578 horsepower. This allows the Brouillard to gallop to a brisk top speed of 236 mph, covering 0-60 in just 2.5 seconds.

Although the W-16 powertrain went out of production last year, Programme Solitaire aims to follow Bugatti’s rich coachbuilding heritage – a tradition long in the past of automotive history – where manufacturers and coachbuilders collaborated to craft the most beautiful and exclusive cars of all time, such as the Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic.

Hendrik Malinowski, managing director of Bugatti, said: “Each precious Solitaire will be truly unique and peerless, delivering a level of craftsmanship and attention to detail unmatched even among the most exclusive automotive creations.”

The equestrian motifs inspire more than just the nameplate, however, as the Brouillard’s interior is beautifully hand-crafted with tartan and leather, green-tinted carbon fibre, and embroidered horses to showcase pure vintage luxury.

Design director, Frank Heyl, said: “The aesthetics of this car abstain from sharp lines in favour of more reflection-based surfaces that mimic a kind of athletic muscle, like a trained horse.”

Only the French marque’s wealthiest pair of hands can purchase a Solitaire special. How wealthy? So wealthy that its expected seven-figure price tag is confidential.
